Feeding the hungry for 38 years
Great Hunger Book Sale
This will be the 38th year of changing books into food. Since the start of the Hunger Book Sale, we have donated nearly $550,000 to help feed the hungry in our community. It has become the largest used book sale in the Greater Milwaukee Area. We expect proceeds to be over $20,000 again this year.
These are the 20 donations made from Hunger Book Sale proceeds in 2018 for a total of $19,500:
5 free meal sites: (The Gathering, St. Ben’s Community Meal, All Saints’ Catholic Church, St. John’s Cathedral Open Door Café, and Hospitality Center - Racine)
6 agencies that include food programs or distribution: (Interchange Program, Feeding America, Hunger Task Force, Jewish Community Pantry, Rescue Mission Holiday Meals, and Salvation Army)
6 local organizations with food related costs: (Sojourner Family Peace Center, Aids Resource Center, Repairers of the Breach, Cathedral Women’s Center, Neighborhood House, and Our Next Generation Homework Club)
3 charities fighting world hunger: (Episcopal Relief and Development, Episcopal Diocese of Milwaukee’s Haiti Project, and the Newala CMM Sisters Orphanage)
We have started collecting books for the 2019 Hunger Book Sale. We take donations of used books, CDs, and DVDs starting June 17, 2019. Donations can be brought to the rear basement entrance of the church. (Enter the small parking lot from Marshall St.) We work Monday through Thursday, 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. We would appreciate your donations by July 23.
Call (414) 271-7719 or fill out the form below if you need your donation picked up, would like to volunteer, or if you would like more information. Sorry, but we cannot accept old textbooks, magazines, Readers' Digest condensed books, or encyclopedias.
