Join the Rev. Dr. Robert Slocum following the 10:00 a.m. service on Sunday, May 7, as he presents his recently published paper about Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s response to the rise of National Socialism in Germany leading up to World War II. You can join us in person in the cathedral library or join the live stream. Links will be available on the cathedral’s website.
Father Slocum’s presentation will be based on his recently published article in the Journal of Ecumenical Studies. This timely discussion will look at identifying with the oppressed in both the U.S. and Germany. Bonhoeffer said the church of Christ lives in all people, beyond all national, political, social, and racial boundaries. He offered an ecumenical vision of the Christian church that greatly transcends the Christian nationalism of National Socialism in Germany; he saw that God’s love for the world and incarnational Christian spirituality can be expressed through political action and active resistance.
Fr. Slocum serves as the Assistant Dean for Virtual and On-line Formation at All Saints’ Cathedral. The Cathedral Institute is a ministry of All Saints’ Cathedral bringing formational opportunities to the parish and to the Diocese of Milwaukee through in-person and online offerings.
