he CATHEDRA (from which the term cathedral is derived) or EPISCOPAL THRONE was first used on Christmas Eve in 1909. From this chair, the Bishop of the Diocese, when he is present, presides over cathedral ceremonies. The throne was made by the Fond du Lac Church Furniture Company and has been extensively rebuilt over the years. A seven-foot spire was added in the 1940s and removed during a remodeling project in the early 1950s. It was restored to its original position in 1988. On the back of the throne is a carved and polychromed seal of the diocese. |
